Great Great Grandson of the last Comanche Chief, Quanah Parker talked to MSA students. The 3rd Annual Comet Cook-off was a delicious success

Steve Tahmahkera, the Great Great Grandson of the last Comanche Chief, Quanah Parker, spoke to MSA students in their E.D.I.T. classes about the relationship of nature in the lives of Native Americans.

The Comanches were Plains Indians and moved about following the American Bison and Antelope for food source, clothing and shelter made from these animals. It wasn't until the settlers in the west changed their lifestyle forever that there were conflicts. Chief Quanah Parker save the remaining members of Comanches when he agreed to a treaty with the US Government to enter into a reservation for their survival. Steve continues the traditions of his people participating in Indian Day Pow Wows doing gourd dances. Students will be creating some indian tribe artifacts depicting either nature or designs of geometric shapes in the coming weeks.
